What is the Feed-In Tariff (FIT)?

If you install an electricity-generating technology from a renewable or low-carbon source such as solar PV, the government's Feed-In Tariff scheme (FIT) could mean you get money from your energy supplier.

The government introduced the FIT scheme to encourage the generation of renewable energy. It is a guaranteed payment, payable for 20 years. These rates apply to installations registered before 30th March 2016.

FIT payments are administered by OFGEM, and implemented by electricity suppliers. Customers receive the FIT for electricity generated by a PV system, regardless of whether the electricity is used on the premises.  Export tariff is currently 4.85 pence per kwh.
